FCC Chinese New Year Performance (Jan/Feb)
Boston Latin School’s Friends of Chinese Culture hosts a Chinese New Year celebration every year on the weekend closest to the actual holiday in January or February. As a traditional Chinese performing art, we find it very fitting to join the celebration of such a prominent holiday in the culture. We will be one of many performances during the show, including traditional dancing, singing, as well as other activities.
BLS Asian Night (May)
Every year in January, we will audition to perform in the annual Asian Night hosted by BLS A.S.I.A. (Asian Students In Action) toward the beginning of May. The purpose of the event is to celebrate our school’s Asian community as well as teach more people about the culture. This is the only performance where the Diabolo Club will not only perform the traditional aspect of the Chinese yo-yo, but also a glow-in-the-dark section in the end with light up yo-yos and glow-sticks. Our performance name is called “The Sky’s the Limit” as a representation of the feeling of no limitations as your diabolo flies through the air.
Parkway Relay for Life (Jun)
Relay for Life is an organization that raises money to support people who have been diagnosed with cancer, and one of the relays they hold is located in the Catholic Memorial School in West Roxbury. For the past few years, they have invited the West Roxbury Chinese Culture Society to give performances, and we have been one of the groups. During the event, we will also be walking in support of the good cause and selling yo-yos, in which all profits will go as a donation into Relay for Life.
